P is For… Current Word: Passion Your Word: Persistence Why? For me, my passion comes from being persistent all my life. When I was young, the family farm was foreclosed on, so we needed to become persistent to meet our goals and therefore created our passion/drive to succeed. Today, I have many students in class who need to be persistent to become who they want to be in life.

I is For… Current Word: Immersion Your Word: Innovative Why? As I tell my students, we need to step out of our comfort zone to grow both personally and professionally. In order to pursue our dreams we need to be innovative. Sometimes being a leader one needs to consolidate all ideas and show your innovation! With true innovation, one will be fully immersed into their goals and environment.

r is For… Current Word: Rapport Your Word: Responsibility/Respect Why? It is your responsibility to attempt to create a connection to all your students. All students can be entrusted with some responsibility as then the classroom will be truly everyone’s room and rapport will be established. If you show them respect; they will respect you. It may be trying at times but role modeling will be benefical.

a is For… Current Word: Ask and analyze Your Word: Advocate/Approachable Why? It is important to advocate for both your department and the agriculture industry. It is also important for one to be approachable as others will want to hear the story the you tell. It is important to advocate for students as well since they are your clientele as well.

t is For… Current Word: transformation Your Word: Team – Focused Why? Team – focused is a great trait as if you use the team approach, one may learn to grow and develop skills. Many professionals need to create a team that is willing to state the tough points as well as the good points. One can only grow if they have honesty from their peers. IF properly balanced one can transform when needed by the guidance from others. This applies to classroom communities as well.

e is For… Current Word: enthusiasm Your Word: Experiences Why? It is important to encourage all students to have new and interesting experiences. Most of the time new experiences will bring excitement into the classroom and then enthusiasm for learning will happen. I have many students who love to share their personal and educational experiences with others in class.
