EMODNET Geology future trends – short term Direct link to the marine layers in the OGE portal Complete layer package (end July 2011) Supply data layers as downloadable products, not only WMS Consider development of user defined maps 1

EMODNET Geology future trends – long term (priority suggestions in bold) Expect expanded areal coverage (Bay of Biscay and Iberian coast, Mediterranean, Black Sea, Norwegian Sea, Barents Sea, North East Atlantic, Eastern Gulf of Finland...) Improved spatial resolution (sub-areas), benefitting on existing work Increase resolution of classification, and include different classification schemes Identify behavioural units (cliffy coasts, sand dunes, estuaries etc..) and incorporate temporal change Add morphological features Add processes, and include time series (4D, climate change) Develop thematic maps for more users – i.e. aggregate industry and renewable energy industry, fisheries, defence, etc. 2

EMODNET Geology future trends – long term Include shallow sub-surface data – shallow 3D model Integrate all data sets in common EMODNET portal Secure long-term updating – concentrate on data sets held by the EMODNET partners, and linked data sets updated by other data holders (avoid static compilation) Continue focus on INSPIRE compliance, open standards and open access to data Improve traceability & confidence. Traceability both in respect of data source, and users of data Highlight significance of improved data quality – particularly multibeam bathymetry including backscatter – EC policy vs. national policy 3

Example – OLEX data showing morphological structures 4
