Learning Objective:

Whole numbers (numbers that we count) can also be called odd or even numbers. This includes numbers like 1, 2, 3, 4… 136… 5265… and many, many more… Odds and Evens In this lesson you will learn about odd and even numbers

When choosing two equal teams; it is best to have an even number of participants. Do you know why? Lets see; There are 10 ants who need to put into two equal teams. Can it be done? Team ATeam B Can you see why 10 is an even number?

How many ants are there now? = 15 so we now have 15 ants. Five more ants come along. What will happen when we put them into 2 teams? Team ATeam B Can you see why 15 is an odd number? I’m the odd one out!

Odd numbers end in a 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 Even Numbers Even numbers end in a 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 Odd Numbers All the numbers in the 2 times table are even. If a number is not in the 2 times table then it is odd.

Look at this number grid; All these numbers can be called odd or even. What do you notice about the odd numbers? What do you notice about the even numbers?

continued When finding odds and even numbers; 1) Look at the end digit (the units digit) 2) If it ends in a 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 then the number is even 3) If it ends in a 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 then the number is odd Odds and Evens Steps to success

Lets see how good you are; Sort these numbers into two groups; odds and evens. Odd Even

Lets have a go at some more; OddEven

Lets have a go at some more; Odd Even

Activity

Plenary Which numbers do not belong in this set? Odd Using these digit cards make an even number. The hundreds digit is greater than 3.
