Agenda Why use technology in the classroom? Tips before starting a PowerPoint presentation Basic steps to designing a PowerPoint presentation Types of Presentations Conclusion and Sources

Why? “When students are using technology as a tool or a support for communicating with others, they are in an active role rather than the passive role of recipient of information transmitted by a teacher, textbook, or broadcast. Technology use allows many more students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in teacher-led lessons.”

Why? Change in student/teacher roles Increased motivation and self esteem Technical skills Accomplishment Collaboration Improved attention from audience http://www2.ed.gov/pubs/EdReformStudies/EdTech/effectsstudents.html

Conclusion and Sources We talked about how presentations are done and where they are used. We can use them in a parent meeting, in school or at work. PowerPoint presentations are used as a helping tool when we want to talk about something. They help us focus more on what the person is talking about. We must remember they are a helping tool so we are not supposed to write a lot of information and just read it. We must only put the main things to remember what we are talking about. We did not add time to the slides because we wanted the person who is reading it to see them at their own pace. http://www.online.tusc.k12.al.us/tutorials/pptclass/pptclass.htm http://blog.powerteacher.ca/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/ed5.gif http://www.edutopia.org/technology-integration-introduction http://www2.ed.gov/pubs/EdReformStudies/EdTech/effectsstudents.html
