WRITING DRAMA: DAY 3 Honors MYP Wednesday, September 16, 2015

SNIPPET: WRITING9/16/15 Write about the same disagreement from last week, BUT from the other person’s point of view. Revision 1: Edit pronouns to reflect a consistent point of view. Revision 2: Add at least 1 appropriate semicolon. (You may have to combine 2 sentences.)

CONJUNCTIVE ADVERBS A conjunctive adverb is an adverb that connects ideas or smoothly transitions from one idea to another. Main Clause + ; + Conjunctive Adverb +, + Main Clause.

OBJECTIVE, AGENDA, & HOMEWORK Objective: I will give and receive meaningful feedback on mine and others’ one-act plays. Agenda:  Writing Snippet  Model Workshop Group  Workshop Groups Homework:  Continue working on your one-act play.  Greek roots are due Tuesday, September 22, 2015.

THIS WEEK Monday = Finish “A Marriage Proposal”; One-Act Play Planning Tuesday = One-Act Play Drafting  Have a completed draft in class on Wednesday Wednesday = Writer’s Workshop Groups Thursday = Typing in the Daedalus Lab  Submit to Turnitin.com by 3:00 p.m. on Friday  You may want to begin typing on Wednesday night!

WRITER’S WORKSHOP EXPECTATIONS Respect the community of writers. Be willing to take risks. Be willing to share your writing. Find your purpose and audience. Develop your own process(es) for writing. Continuously add to your writer’s notebook. Be 100% attentive during the focus lesson. Be prepared to revise your work repeatedly. Focus on the positives when giving feedback. Ask questions and give suggestions instead of giving negative feedback. During independent writing time, focus on brainstorming, planning, researching, drafting, conferring, revising, and editing.

TIPS FOR WORKSHOPPING Leave the writer with enthusiasm for writing! Focus on ideas, organization, voice, word choice, figurative language, and sentence variety.  Do not focus on spelling, grammar, etc. Questions to think about:  What did I like best about this paper?  What would I like to know more about?  What stands out?  What is confusing? When asking questions or giving suggestions for a play, consider:  Does play tell a story with character development?  Is the play centered on ONE conflict?  Is the setting clear? Can this be done on a stage?  Does the plot flow, and is the conflict resolved?  Is the theme of the play clear?

STEPS FOR WORKSHOPPING Step 1:  Writer: tell purpose, audience, and what you need help with  Group: take notes on what writer said Step 2:  Writer: read play aloud  Group: listen and take notes on what comes to mind Step 3:  Group: start with positives; ask questions  Writer: listen, take notes, and then respond to questions Step 4:  Writer: ask for clarification; share plan for revision  Group: praise the writer for sharing

WRITING AND REVISING After you have received feedback from your group, start working on revising.  Replace  Add  Delete  And  Reorder Remember that a complete draft of your poems is due Friday at 3 p.m. on turnitin.com.
