An Intro to Printmaking Grade 7 Art Mr. Hobbs

What is Printmaking? Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing, normally on paper. Capable of producing multiples of the same piece, which is called a 'print'. Created from a single original surface Usually use: plates of metal, usually copper or zinc for engraving or etching stone, used for lithography blocks of wood for woodcuts linoleum for linocuts Fabric/paper plates for screen-printing.

What are we going to work on? Today you will be working in your sketchbooks to create an image, scene, animal, figure, etc. that you are interested in printing. Take time to sketch out different ideas Once you have a good, usable idea, transfer your idea onto your styrofoam printing plate. Try to stay away from text or written work since it may be too hard (remember, everything will turn out backwards.) Press quite firmly using your pencil into the block to “engrave” your image into the styrofoam.

Printing Time! Now, its time to practice translating your image from your plate onto paper Remember one of these will be a final product so make sure your stations are clean and you take your time printing these. At each station there is different paper and different coloured ink. Experiment with at least three prints using different paper and different colours
