Presentation transcript:

Issue : 2 August 2013 Aim of the LITSSW project: People living in and/or immigrating to another country who do not speak the local language often are faced with serious difficulties in everyday communication. Therefore breaking down language barriers is of paramount importance. Trained interpreters play a key role in enabling people to move to the center of society and gain access to public services. The LITSSW project aims to give people the possibility to start a career as an interpreter. The consortium therefore created a Training Course which will take place in each partner country. About the Training Course: The specially developed six-day interpreter course teaches basics such as: Interpreting notes technique Producing of glossaries General interpreter techniques In addition, students will be prepared for typical situations in the daily work of interpreters and receive through the help of guest speakers an impression of the different application areas for interpreters. Second Partner Meeting in Hemel Hempstead: Training of the Language Interpreter Course Tutors The second meeting of the transfer of innovation project "Language Interpreter Training as a Stepping Stone to Work" took place from the 15th to 17th of May 2013 in Hemel Hempstead (UK). In addition to the project managers the trainers also took part in this meeting. These trainers will carry out the interpreter course in the partner countries. First of all, the trainers received their course material and were introduced by Ian McKenzie, the British course trainer, to the structure of the interpreter course. During the next session all trainers had the opportunity to follow an interpreter course and were able to get an impression of Ian‘s work and understand how the course works in practice. Based on this experience, their main tasks are now to adapt the interpreter course according to the conditions and target groups of each partner country as well as to deliver the first Pilot Training Course. Language Interpreter Training as a Stepping Stone to Work The next steps: Adapting the interpreting course material Creating Training Manual for course teachers Recruitment of students Delivery of Training Course
