Why use Pod-casts? Personal connection to students outside of seminar Reach auditory learners on unit reading or project instructions Provide technical innovation, variety, and value to your classroom By the way, you will need your Head-Set with Microphone in order to record your own Pod-Cast during this tutorial----So please grab those and off we go…….

Welcome to a PRIMER on how to create an Audio Announcement for you Classroom! This presentation was created with “Foundations Faculty Teaching Academic Strategies ” in mind, and as a PRIMER for those who have never used, but would like to begin enfolding multi-media into their classrooms. Also, it is for faculty who may have used other forms of multi-media in their classrooms but never actually created their own audio recordings. While this PRIMER focuses in on Audio-Podcasts and learning to convert files to Mp3, and then on how to embed them in the Announcements area, you can also embed the Mp3 files in the Discussion Board or Doc Sharing or on Web Pages. Once you have learned the very basics as given in this tutorial there are many ways to diversify and amplify the uses. (Adding video or photos to an audio message, placing audio into Power Points, and other software products and venues, etc.)

2) Download Audacity at: 3) Then click the Download Tab at the Top of the Page

Then select Windows (unless you have a Mac) and do not use the Beta version on the right hand side of the screen At the next screen is where you will actually download Audacity BUT…You will ALSO find the link to the Lame MP3 Encoder on that page (screen-shot on next slide) Which you will need in order for your recordings to be converted to a MP3 files that you can link into your classroom announcements.

1) Audacity Download Link 2) Lame MP3 Encoder Download Save both of these to your Desktop …for now….

IMPORTANT : VERY carefully follow the directions here for saving the Lame Encoder file! You may want to copy and paste these directions into a Word Document temporarily so as to follow the steps, or it may not install correctly.

1) Once you have completed the initial download of the LAME encoder--- go to your desktop icon for this, and double-click it to install it…and save …follow the directions prompts and the directions you copied earlier 2) And this time the “LAME encoder file” will choose where to install the converter on your computer- DO NOT change where it installs it. You may want to write down the file path location..But it should save to: C\Program files\Lame for Audacity 3) GREAT! Now when you complete your recording in Audacity you will know Where to export the file so that it can be converted to an MP3 Ok! Let’s Shove off..I mean RECORD..raise the SAILS Mates! IMPORTANT STEP! Get Out Your MAP: How to install the Encoder!

Grab your Script and Open the Audacity Icon on your desktop and it should look like The screen-shot below:
