Reasoning Ionic and metallic bonds are stronger than intermolecular forces between molecules in covalent substances. It takes more energy for the bonds to be broken with substances that have electrostatic forces than those with intermolecular forces. This is seen in our results because at 100 C aluminum (metallic) and NaCl (ionic) did not melt while all the other substances did (covalent). This means that the particles of metallic and ionic substances are held together with a stronger force than the particles in covalent molecules
