Intervertebral Disc Displacement By: Nina Clark

What is an Intervertebral Disc An intervertebral disc is a fibrocartilaginous disc serving as a cushion between all of the vertebrae of the spinal column

Spinal discs make it easier for the spine to bend and twist as the friction goes to them. They also act as shock absorbers.

Types Of IDDs

Herniated Disc This is a painful rupture of the fibrocartilage of the disc between spinal vertebrae; occurs most often in the lumbar region

Degenerated Disc Degeneration is usually caused by normal aging. All disc diseases can be the result of a back injury.

Treatment Non surgical treatments: Acupuncture Activity moderation Learning proper ways to bend and lift Conservative therapy Surgical Treatments Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy Laminectomy Laser Treatment Spinal Fusion Arthrectomy Disc replacement
