HISD Becoming #GreatAllOver 11 Predictors of Success  Each item on the Kinder Readiness is an expected outcome or skill that represents expectations for the beginning of Kindergarten.

HISD Becoming #GreatAllOver 12 C-PALLS+: The HISD Kindergarten Readiness Screener FeaturesC-PALLS+ Assessment Subtests Available  Literacy and Mathematics (*district required)  Science, Engineering, & Technology  Social Emotional  Emergent and Early Writing Assessment Administration  Approximately 15 minutes per student  Administered one on one using a computer or iPad  Teachers have access to an administration guide  Technical Support/Customer Service available Login Procedures Teachers will have a single user login to access the assessments, intervention activities and teacher professional development. Student Intervention Individual, small group, and whole group intervention activities are aligned to specific skills based on subtest data for each student and the class as a whole. Data Retrieval and Tracking  Student, group, and campus reports available  Students are automatically grouped into color coded tiers with specific intervention activities displayed on the screen  Previous year’s data can be accessed  Student progress throughout the year is automatically generated  District administrator access available  Assessment completion reports available  Detailed reports and analysis identifying areas of strength or concern available for parents

HISD Becoming #GreatAllOver Phonological Awareness Rapid Letter Naming This subtest evaluates the number of upper and lower case letters that a child can name in 60 seconds Rapid Vocabulary Naming This subtest evaluates children’s vocabulary knowledge within a timed format Listening This subtest evaluates whether a child can differentiate between similar sounding words Rhyme Recognition This subtests evaluates whether a child can identify whether or not two words rhyme Rhyme Production This subtest is a production task, where children are asked to provide a word that rhymes with another word Alliteration This subtest is a task that asks children to provide a “yes” or “no” answer to whether or not a pair of words start with the same sound Words in a Sentence This subtest is a task where children are asked to move manipulatives to indicate how many words are in a sentence Syllabication This subtest evaluates whether or not the children can break down words into syllables Onset-Rime This subtest evaluates one of the key components of phonological processing, “blending” within single syllable words

HISD Becoming #GreatAllOver Mathematics Rote CountingRote count (clearly enunciating numeral words) Number Identification Correctly name the appropriate numerals 1-to-1 CountingUse 1-to-1 correspondence to count sets 1 – 10 Cardinality Count sets and identify the last count as the quantity of that set Positional Words Follow directions that include positional words (under, over, behind, in front of, etc.) Sorting Recognize attributes (color and size), sort and make groups ShapesName and recognize properties of shapes Ordinals WordsIdentify the name counters in line from first to fifth Operations Compare 2 sets and identify which has more or less; add and subtract

HISD Becoming #GreatAllOver Observable Behaviors Checklist Book and Print Concepts This checklist has 12 items evaluating children’s knowledge of book and print concepts (i.e., author’s role, letters versus words [show me one letter] etc.). Early Writing Skills This checklist has 10 items evaluating children’s writing ability (i.e., writes own name with approximate letters etc.). Social Emotional Skills Checklist This checklist has 31 items evaluating children on multiple domains considered to be important predictors of early academic and social success. HISD Becoming #GreatAllOver What is the process to administer the Kindergarten Readiness Screener? Administer Istation and C-PALLS+ Mathematics subtest to all Kindergarten students. For all students scoring as Tier II and III on Istation, administer C-PALLS+ subtests for Literacy & Language. Begin providing intervention for skill deficits in Literacy and Language. For all students with skill deficits in Mathematics based on C-PALLS+ subtests, begin providing intervention. For all students scoring as Tier I on Istation continue to provide Tier I instruction. C-PALLS+ administration is not required.
