How Can I Use the Scientific Method? Morgan Crawford Benjamin Carson Middle School

About the Lesson! Students will be introduced to a problem using problem-based learning. The student will be asked to identify the problem and develop a solution. Once the solution has been created, the student should perform an experiment to see if their solution works

Materials Needed for This Experiment: LDC Projector Internet Accessible Computer peachstar.unitedstreaming. com Box of Nails Styrofoam Cups Notepads Water Clear Nail Polish Household Paint Pre-coated Nails Oil Pre-Marked Web Addresses

Technology Connection Using United Streaming and the LDC projector, allow the class to view videos relating to the scientific method in steps as they are asked to complete the steps of the process. As the Students will use Excel to record their data. Internet will be used to gather research data about rust and how it happens.

Overview of the Lesson Introduction will be given using a video about the scientific method. Students will be grouped and given worksheet with the story and problem Students will be asked to develop a way to solve the problem Research Rust Using the Experimental Design Worksheet, create and complete experiment Complete the final steps of the scientific method Present the results to the class

Assessments As an assessment, S will be asked to do a self-evaluation, a peer-evaluation, and a group evaluation. Accurate completion of the Experimental Design Worksheet will be used as an assessment tool. T will evaluate the presentation using a rubric.

Peer Education Plan My peer education plan involves teaching a lesson similar to the lesson to be done with the Students to show Teachers how the scientific method can be made simple for the Students.
