IPv6 in the IP Mmed domain

IPv6 for multimedia services The All-IP Requirements and NAM requires IPv6 to be supported in the network, but it does not mandate IPv6 in the MS Important questions: 1) Should IPv6 support be mandated also in the MS (for the IP Mmed domain) 2) Make IPv6 the exclusive protocol (no IPv4 support) for IP Multimedia services (Whenever SIP is used) ? 3) Make IPv6 the exclusive protocol in the IP Multimedia domain ?

If IPv6 is made exclusive for the IPMMed services? Interoperability with IPv4 nodes on the Internet ? Does the MS have to be dual-stack or can it be IPv6 only ?

If both IPv4 and IPv6 needs to be supported... IPv4 mobile setting up a call to a IPv6 mobile. How does that work end-to-end ? Does this require that all the nodes in the network are dual-mode/stack ? What impact does this have on complexity ? Are there any interoperabilty issues if both MIPv4 and MIPv6 are used in the IP MMed domain ? Is route optimization possible between a MIPv4 mobile and a MIPv6 mobile or will we be forced to route all traffic through the HA ? What about a dual-stack mobile (if there are any) ? Can MIPv4 and MIPv6 co-exist ?

IPv6 for transport

Transport issues Support of IPv6 is already mandatory in the IP Multimedia domain core network (but not in the MS). Should it be mandatory also in the Legacy MS Domain CN, e.g. between BSC and Media Gateway ? IPv6 mandatory within RAN (when IP is used) ? IPv6 over A10/A11 ?

Mobile IPv6 What 뭩 happening ? What can 3GPP2 do ?
