ISSUES WITH CURRENT REPORTING SYSYTEM Reports are not fully aligned with the NYS standards Reports do not reflect the updated math and ELA initiatives Reports lack K – 5 alignment 10 minute conferences do not provide adequate discussion time for parents and teachers. Skill sets are not fully addressed in reports Goals are not established in reports Reports lack information on social skills and interpersonal development
PROCESS OF RE-EVALUATION Formation of K -5 report card committee Review of teacher and parent comments / recommendations Review of NYS standards in the content areas Review of the social / developmental component Gathering of exemplar reports from other districts Group input into new/additional indicators Produce a new K- 5 reporting system for approval by the BOE.
GOALS To create a reporting system that: Improves content area reporting for parents Is aligned K – 5 Aligns with NYS Standards Assess social, emotional and character education growth Avoids “teacher speak.” Provides electronic access for teachers and possibly parents. Provides goals for students
Recommendations Change current reporting system from one short (10 minute) conference and three written reports to two longer (20 minute) conferences and two written reports. Expand indicators to provide greater detail in report Align performance levels to match State Standards on a 1 – 4 scale Develop electronic reports for easy editing and possible transmission
