Alaska volcano erupts The Mount Redoubt volcano in southern Alaska came to life Sunday night erupting 6 times through Monday, with plumes ( 飘升之 物 ) of gas and smoke shooting as high as 14480m above sea level. It was the volcano’s first eruption in nearly 20 years. Alaska Airlines cancelled 19 flights Monday due to falling ash, which can injure people’s skin and eyes in addition to damaging engines in planes, cars and other vehicles.

Armstrong breaks collarbone 7-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong fractured his right collarbone in a race in Spain Monday, putting in doubt his comeback to professional cycling. Armstrong was knocked off his bike during a pileup in the first stage of Spain’s Vuelta Castilla Leon and was rushed to hospital. Billionaire’s 2nd blastoff ( 发射, 起飞 ) Recession( 经济衰退 ) or not, billionaire Charles Simonyi, a computer genius who helped build Microsoft, will become the world’s first 2-time space tourist when he leaves Earth on March 26. The 2-week trip will cost the 60-year-old $35m compared to the first which was $25m. It may be the last time the Russian government allows tourists to hitch a ride (get a free ride) to the international space station, as there will be no more seats available for tourists.
