What is the IP Placement?  Partnership between St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital, Queen's University and QUIPPED  Queen’s University Inter-Professional Patient- Centred Education Direction (QUIPPED)  tutorials  inter-professional shadowing  patient-centred learning  final group project

Who are the participants?  4 tutorial leaders from Queen’s University  7 students  social work  occupational therapy  practical nursing  medicine  theology  psychology

Goals of the Placement  Increase understanding of scopes of practice of other disciplines  Learn about the collaborative nature of professional practice  Use group process in inter-professional decision-making  Improve critical analysis and communication skills  Enhance understanding of role and experience of patient/client

Tutorials  4 weekly tutorial sessions with reflective journaling  Tutorials focused on:  temperaments and teamwork  client-centred perspective  ethics and decision-making  inter-professional collaborative care  communication and conflict resolution

Inter-Professional Shadowing  Observe members of the Geriatric Team from different disciplines Wide variety of shadowing experiences: - Recreation therapy- Speech/LanguagePathology - Occupational therapy- Social Work - Pharmacy- Spiritual Care - Physical therapy- Medicine - Nursing- Discharge Planning

Patient Involvement  Shadow current geriatric inpatient on a typical day  Appreciate health care delivery from patient perspective  Patient perspective at tutorial

IP Project: Process & Product  Collaborated on inter-professional project - weekly protected time  End product:  resource for Gibson 3 patients and families  How did we arrive at our decision?  What did we learn?
