METRO WASTEWATER RECLAMATION DISTRICT CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM

ABOUT US Wastewater treatment authority for most of metropolitan Denver Special District formed in 1961 Service area Denver plus parts of 4 other counties 2 treatment facilities, RWHTF and NTP (Brighton) RWHTF began operating 1966, NTP online in 2016 Treat 130 mgd, 240 miles of interceptors and force mains.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM Facility Plan every 5 years C.E.S. 10-year look ahead Current C.E.S. $1.3B Projects include 20% Metro contingency, 30% Construction contingency, 25% Engineering fees and 2% escalation

BRANTNER GULCH LIFT STATION AND R.D. FORCE MAIN DEMOLITION 2016 – 2018 $3,500,000 No longer needed once NTP complete. SPI conveys flows north by gravity. Demo includes lift station, emergency overflow basins, hydrogen peroxide feed station and 25k feet of 14 and 18-inch forcemain.

INTERCEPTOR REHABILITATION – 2016 $5,500,000 Rehab deteriorated gravity sewers and structures. 15,700’ of 10 – 78” pipe. Mostly CIPP, but some CIPP or Sliplining. Major component in downtown Denver with complex bypass pumping. 2 large diversion structures and abandon 400’ of 58” brick sewer.

SUPPORT FACILITIES UPGRADE 2015 – 2017 $23,700,000 Facilities are either obsolete, don’t meet code, too small for future uses or all of the above. OSB new 14,000 sq ft next to existing, then demo existing. RRR Maintenance new 17,000 sq ft, then demo existing. Wharehouse expand in place, additional 16, 000 sq ft.

SOUTH PRIMARY HEADWORKS IMPROVEMENTS 2015 – 2018 $47,300,000 Obsolete and aging infrastructure. Improve screenings and grit removal. Safety improvements, new overflow channel. Extreme makeover. Gutting existing building, replace all mechanical, electrical, barscreens, new grit basins, replace equipment in Grease Processing building.

ANNUAL INTERCEPTOR REHABILITATION 2016 – 2024 $6M/Year Aging pipelines, identified through CCTV inspections. Scope of work determined each year in late summer for next year’s project. Usually just pipe, not structures.

DELGANY COMMON IMPROVEMENTS PHASE – 2017 $2,800,000 Aging diversion structures. Lost functionality, safety issues, poor location. 3 structures, build one new one in different location, extensive rehab/modifications of other two. Possible utility relocations, and bypass pumping required.
