Presentation transcript:

Levels of Organization

Structure= the way something is made…. “what it is”

Function= the job it (structure) performs “what it does”

Cell

Cell= smallest unit of structure and function for a living thing

Cell Ex: Bone Cell, Blood Cell, Nerve Cell, Skin Cell, Plant Cell

Tissue

Tissue= group of the same type of cells that perform a specialized function

Tissue Ex: Skin Tissue, Muscle Tissue, Bone Tissue

Organ

Organ= group of tissues that perform a specialized function

Organ Ex: Brain, Stomach, Heart, Bone, Skin, Liver, Leaf

Organ Systems

Organ System= group of organs that perform a complex function

Organ System Ex: Digestive System, Circulatory, Nervous, Skeletal

Organism

Organism= group of organ systems working together to make 1 living thing

Population

Population= all the members of 1 kind of organism (species) in a particular area

Community

Community= all the populations living together in an area (biotic factors)

Ecosystem

Ecosystem= the interaction of all the biotic and abiotic factors in an area

Biome

B IOME = Similar ecosystems on earth together

Biosphere

Biosphere= everywhere on Earth that living things can exist

Earth’s crust, oceans, lower level of atmosphere
