Ms. Vander Meer Room 129B

 Have you paid your $4 English fee? Pay me this week or next (or show receipt from One Stop Shop or fee waiver form)  Do you have an internet permission form signed by a parent? If you had one last year, it’s still good. (Check Office B or C if you need one.)

 Syllabus (return with your signature and a parent/guardian signature for hw grade)  Reading letter to parents (return with signature for a hw grade)  Journal using essential question for the year  Argument Statements

 Major Data Worksheet next Friday, August 21 for summer reading selection(will do in class).  Independent reading/journaling will begin next week. Bring a book from home or select from classroom library or school library. (AP students must choose from AP reading list)

 What is worth the effort?  When is a risk worth taking?  Is it important to face reality?  Whose life is it anyway?

Make a list of:  Some things that are important to you  Some things you did this summer  Some of your core beliefs

Choose 5 things off your list and turn them into debatable statements – something we could argue with. For example: Something I did this summer: This summer I went to Florida and spent 5 days at the beach. Debatable statement: The most relaxing vacation is a beach vacation.

Argumentation is a lens through which we flourish as intellectuals.

 Leave argument statements in basket by the door.  Leave journal entry on essential question in basket.  Don’t forget to get syllabus and reading letter signed.
