Welcome to Open House

Mrs. Linkhorst This year is my 18 th year with the Pleasant Valley School District. I have a BS in Early Childhood Ed, MS in Educational Technology, and MA in Teaching and Learning with a focus on Elementary Mathematics.

Grading Our grading on report cards follows a standards based form. So, a 2 is where you want you child to be. If they receive a 1 it is an area they need to work on. If they receive a 3 it means they mastered the concept for the end of the year goal. Tests will be going home with traditional grading of percentages. Some tests many have 5 out of 5. Reading tests have the skills broken up so you can see what area your child has problems in.

Folders/Homework The blue communication folder must come back everyday with homework inside. The other folder is the reading bag. This will contain the reading book/s to read every night. The log book must be signed. If homework is not returned the next day, then your child will need to complete it at recess. So, reading logs must be signed to count as homework completed.

Spelling New this year is a challenge list of words for your child. When we take the pretest, if your child receives a 90% or better, they will be given a challenge list of words. It will be attached to the pretest. The test date will be written on the test.

Reading The reading program incorporates vocabulary, phonics, phonemic awareness, comprehension, grammar, spelling, and writing in one. Sight words will be given weekly. I will let you know what we are teaching each week on my homework page. Mrs. Peechatka and Mrs. Downie will be our reading support teachers.

Mathematics Math is set up to master skills through allowing your child to solve problems and think critically about math. If your child needs extra help in class, I will write that on the paper. If your child needs extra assistance after that, then we have a math support teacher, Mrs. Herrmann, who will meet with your child in a smaller group or I will take them inside the room. We will also begin a new math facts program, so math facts will only be practiced in school. We are also beginning a computer program called Reflex math where your child can then practice math facts at home without your assistance.

Technology We will go to the computer lab two times out of the six day cycle. We will work on writing, reading, and mathematics.

Think Central In order to assist you at home with math and reading, there is a Think Central web site. Your child will receive a user name and password. k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/start.do k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/start.do

Classroom Web Site

Rules The rules are listed below the chalkboard. When they follow the rules, they will receive a PAWS ticket to be turned in for prizes. Also, if they remain in the fish bowl, then they will receive a punch on their card. Once full, they can pick out of my prize box. If they break a rule, they get moved accordingly. If they end up out of my bucket, then I will call home. I also began Class Dojo this year.

Dress Code Please follow the dress code. If you are not sure then please ask first.

Parent Communication I believe in open lines of communication with you. I can be reached at Ext during the hours of 8:30- 9:00AM or 4:00PM -4:30PM or via During the school day you will need to leave a message with a good time to call you back.
