What do you think The New Deal was ?

Every bank was closed for a few days so that people would stop with drawing their money. Emergency Banking Act / allowed government to examine all banks before they could re-open. “Fireside Chats” on the radio asked American’s to restore their fate in the banking system. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insures money up to 5,000. ( Today 250,000 ) Home Owners Loan Association helped homeowners who could not pay their mortgage.

Federal Emergency Relief Administration. Securities and Exchange Commission National Industry Recovery Act. Agriculture Adjustment Administration. Works Progress Administration. Social Security Act. ( unemployment insurance, payroll tax on business, employers and wages for pensions of retied workers. Payments for disabled and elderly.

A drought in the south led to dust storms that destroyed crops.

Crops turned to dust. Homes were buried. Fields were blown away. The south was in a state of emergency. Dust Bowl was the number one weather cirsis of the 20 th century.
