Instructional Case Criteria Has clear learning goals and objectives related to state standards Includes explicit literacy strategies presented during institute Includes both formative and summative assessments. Uses the 5E Lesson Design Includes at least 4 lessons and a project
Science Education A “knowledge economy” requires understanding of complex problems and the ability to work with others
Products Instructional Case -- Inquiry-Based Science Lessons and Project: Teachers working as a team will collaboratively develop and implement at least 5 peer-reviewed lessons as part of an inquiry-based project related to their essential question or problem. Lessons must address key criteria of the instructional case. Peer Review: Lessons will be peer reviewed using tuning protocols and modified lesson study. This will happen during institute and during four follow up days during the year. Sharing and Publishing: Teachers will complete the Backwards Mapping Template including all lessons and ancillary materials in an electronic portfolio. Teachers will complete a professional poster of their instructional case. Leadership: Teachers will work as instructional leaders with other teachers to help share and implement projects in other classrooms and throughout their school and district.
Support 10 Days of Summer PD 3 Days of Professional Development During the School Year. CSU Science Faculty and County Curriculum Coordinators in Science, EL & ELA Stipends: $200 per 8 hour day Quarterly visits from Professional Development Team to schools and classrooms.
