Human Systems Part 2 Digestive System

I-Digestive System: breaks down food into a usable sugar molecule called Glucose. A-Digestion starts in the mouth. 1- Food is broken down chemically by salvia produced by salivary glands. 2- Food is also broken down physically by the teeth and tongue.

3. The food is then passed into the esophagus or food tube which leads to the stomach. 4. In the stomach, food is broken down chemically by the enzymes bile and gastric juices, also hydrochloric acid which is not an enzyme. It is also broken down physically by the stomach muscle carrying out peristalsis.

5. From the stomach, the food passes into the small intestine where most of the digestion of food takes place. In the small intestine are Villi which absorbs glucose into the bloodstream.

6. From the small intestine the undigested material now passes into the large intestine, excess water is absorbed and the undigested material is now called Feces.

7- The enzyme bile is made in the liver 7- The enzyme bile is made in the liver and pancreases and stored in the gall bladder till it is needed.
