7 To help the Government of Haiti meet its goals and obligations: Haiti has ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD); Required to ensure that persons with disabilities can access their environment, transportation, public facilities and services, and information and communications technologies; Disability is a cross-cutting issue in Haiti’s PRSP; To meet key targets under Haiti’s Action Plan for Reconstruction and National Development. 8 Article 32: International Cooperation States Parties recognize the importance of international cooperation and its promotion, in support of national efforts for the realization of the purpose and objectives of the present Convention, and will undertake appropriate and effective measures in this regard, between and among States and, as appropriate, in partnership with relevant international and regional organizations and civil society, in particular organizations of persons with disabilities. 9 Building of DPOs? How do we enforce Capacity An Initiative of the GPDD Working Group on Haiti and the IDB UNDP Photo People with disabilities and other vulnerable populations must be included from designing to monitoring reconstruction.

10 DPOs can be instrumental in identifying the needs of their community as well as the buildings and facilities that need to be adapted. They can also recommend cost-effective modifications in order to ensure accessibility to the physical and communicational environments and are vital to monitoring and evaluating accessibility.
