Inversion

2 ways you already know to form yes/no questions Subject + verb? Est-ce que + subject + verb?

To form a yes/no question using the inversion form Invert (switch) the order of the subject and the verb Danses-tu? Aimez-vous le chocolat? Mangeons-nous la pizza?

 Only use inversion with pronouns (tu, il, elle, nous, vous, ils, elles)  Never use inversion with people’s names/proper nouns * je isn’t used much in question form, that’s why it’s not listed here

 With il, elle, on add -t- between the verb and the subject if the verb ends with a vowel Parle-t-il français? Regarde-t-elle la télé? Écoute-t-on la musique en classe?

For more information Add the question word or phrase BEFORE the inversion for more information than yes/no Comment t'appelles-tu? Comment allez-vous? Pourquoi étudions-nous?

C’est à toi! Translate the following questions into French using the inversion. 1. Do you (informal) speak French? 2. Do we have homework? 3. Where do you (plural) study? 4. Do they (f) sing? 5. Does he play soccer?

Activité Form questions using the inversion 1. Do you (plural) speak English? 2. Where do you (singular) wait for your friends? 3. Does she hear the teacher? 4. Do they (m) watch TV? 5. Does he do his homework? 6. Why do we study?
