3 Introduction to the ELPA Who is assessed? Students who are eligible for English Language Learner (ELL) services When is the ELPA administered? Monday, March 16 to Friday, April 24 is the assessment window for the Spring 2009 ELPA
4 Introduction to the ELPA What is assessed? Federal guidelines determine that five language domains must be reported: –Listening –Reading –Writing –Speaking –Comprehension (Listening and Reading)
5 Overview of the ELPA Listening, Reading, Writing domains assessed as individual sections: –Untimed –Group-administered –Each domain should be done in separate sessions –Returned to contractor for scoring
6 Overview of the ELPA Speaking domain assessed as individual section: –Untimed –Individually-administered –Completed in one session –Scored by trained proctor at time of administration
