Value -something that you believe in -Something you feel strongly towards because you see it as a right or good thing -What has an emotional meaning for you -Appreciating something; placing it high on a scale in relation to other things -Holding something dear -Something’s worth - a particular moral or ethical belief or guideline - wide range of applications – family, life in general, friends, houses, shares in companies, pieces of rock, scarcity, aesthetics, uniqueness, intrinsic properties, education, learning, opportunities, awards, good grades, time, popularity, celebrity, cars, art, wine, clothes, money

What defines an issue as being ‘ethical’? -comes in conflict with ‘good’, ‘value’,’quality’ - decision-making issue -Two or more opposing sides : complicated or detailed argument - something that would ‘interfere’ with our personal moral values - raises questions of means and the final outcome ie does the end justify the means? - practical implications – to do with ‘real life’ situations - impact on the quality of people’s lives
Where does our sense of morality come from? - God/Gods/Supernatural beings/Scriptures - Our culture /family/friends/schooling/media/laws/social norms - personal intuition - part of our evolutionary development - application of your sense of Reality and truth What purpose(s) does it serve? - helps society function better eg. Avoiding/dealing with conflict, avoiding negative consequences for a community.
