DIGITAL EXPOSURE E = I x T x S By Robert J. Courtemanche, CJE Galena Park HS, Texas Permission for use granted for any classroom teacher in a public or not-for profit / non-profit school system.
DIGITAL EXPOSURE E = I x T x S Exposure = Intensity x Time x Sensitivity
DIGITAL EXPOSURE E = I x T x S Picture = amount of light from lens x time shutter is open x the sensitivity of the image sensor
DIGITAL EXPOSURE E = I x T x S Picture = f/stop x shutter speed x ISO
INTENSITY The intensity of light is controlled by the f/stop (aperture) The aperture controls the size of the hole that lets in light.
INTENSITY f/1.4 f/2 f2.8 f/4 f/5.6 f/8 f/11 f/16 f/22 Poor Light Indoors Outside (Sunny Sixteen)
TIME The shutter speed is controlled by the shutter speed dial. This regulates the shutter to open and close correctly.
TIME SLOWFAST TRIPOD NORMAL ACTION
ISO “FILM” SPEED HOW FAST THE CAMERA CAN CAPTURE LIGHT OUTDOORS, BRIGHT SUNLIGHT OUTDOORS, CLOUDY INDOORS, WITH LIGHT OR FLASH NIGHT WITH LIGHT OR INDOOR WITH LOW LIGHT NIGHT WITH LOW LIGHT NIGHT WITH VERY LOW LIGHT
E = I x T x S SET AND THEN FIND 1) Set your ISO based on your light conditions 2) Set either your shutter speed (shutter priority - best for sports or action) or set your f/stop (aperture priority - best for low light situations with little action). 3) Let your camera find the other one (f/stop or shutter speed). 4) Take a picture or two. 5) Adjust - one setting at a time
