The vision of the David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy The David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy will facilitate the development of the personal process of discovery in self-reliant learners in an ever-changing, highly technological society.

The mission of the David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy The mission of the David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy is to foster the development of productive life-long learners through academic problem solving and real work applications.

What STEM is: * Full immersion, interconnected * Problem solving, project based learning * Hands-on, minds-on, Blooms higher levels of learning * Use of updated technology * Ingenuity, creativity What STEM is not: * Not a program or activity * Not a class, but a process of learning * Not just the use of software, but problem solving * Not a cure-all for a student’s problems

House the 6 th – 8 th STEM academy as a school of choice, with a capacity of 300 (100 students per grade level) STEM concepts will be fully integrated in the middle school curriculum with specialized STEM electives Students that successfully complete middle school STEM will receive priority placement to the high school in the lottery STEM will be fully immersed in the overall curriculum and in every high school pathway The Thibodaux staff will develop entrance and continuation criteria for STEM

The four Career Pathways include: ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY * Pathways include Engineering, Drafting, and Industrial Technology * The NHS Engineering Academy with be transferred to David Thibodaux pending Unitary Status guidelines BIO-MEDICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES * Pathways include Dental, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, and Patient Care Technician * The NHS Environmental Sciences Academy will be transferred to David Thibodaux Career and Technical High School/STEM Academy HUMAN SERVICES * Pathways include STAR (Teacher Cadet), Child Development, and Culinary Arts ADVANCED MANUFACTURING * Pathways include Automotive Technology, Electrician, Industrial Electronics Technology, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Machine Tool Technology, and Welding

* Exploratory courses for all pathways would be housed at the Thibodaux campus * Advanced level courses and Industry-Based Certification courses would be offered through South Louisiana Community College, or on the Thibodaux campus where applicable * All instructors teaching the advanced pathway courses on the Thibodaux campus must be credentialed to offer dual enrollment and IBC’s where applicable

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH SLCC * The current general fund academy budget will be used to implement the components of the MOU * Academy funds would be used for transportation, tuition/fees, textbooks and supplies for students attending SLCC * The official MOU outlines all details of the proposed dual enrollment partnership

* Advanced Science Labs * Engineering Labs * Environmental Sciences Labs * Project Based Learning Labs * State of the Art Technology Infrastructure Facility changes and/or improvements
