Review: Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. Bring all books and materials to class. Follow directions the first time they are given. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak. Do not talk while others are talking. Make smart choices - keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. Absolutely no teasing, bullying or swearing – respect yourself and others around you. Follow all safety guidelines when doing science experiments. No cell phones, ipods or other gadgets to be used during class.

When to stop and listen… Eyes & Ears TIMEOUT!!! If I say “Eyes & Ears”, you need to put down your pencil/pen, look at me, and get ready to listen! No talking! If I say “TIMEOUT!!!”, (just like in sports) you need to freeze and stop talking. Chances are I need to explain something important.

It’s ok to give help or hints, but it is NOT ok to give answers! What is the grading scale? A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60-69 F = Below 59 How are grades calculated? Classwork/Labs = 35% Participation (bellwork/notes) = 25% Quizzes and Tests = 25% Projects = 10% Homework = 5% What happens if I catch someone cheating? All the people involved will earn a ZERO on that assignment and may be referred to the office. Remember … It’s ok to give help or hints, but it is NOT ok to give answers!

What happens if I forget an assignment at home, leave it on the bus, or just don’t do it at all? I will earn a zero on that assignment! How can I earn credit for late work? Late work will be accepted up to the end of the quarter. 50% will be taken off every late assignment. Late work must be turned in to Ms. Banjavcic, not the bins. How long do I have to make up work missed while I was absent? I will have two days for each day I was absent to make up the work assigned while I was gone. Any work that was due the day I was absent is due when I return to class. When should I see Ms. Banjavcic for extra help? I should ask questions during class when we have time to work on assignments or make arrangements to come in before or after school. I should not wait until an assignment is due to ask for help.

Where can I find the following items? Pencil Sharpener Kleenex Computers Emergency Maps Dictionaries Textbooks Absent Folders Work Bins Colored Pencils, Crayons and Markers Scissors Rulers Glue Extra Paper Pencils Garbage/Recycling

A little bit about Ms. Banjavcic Born and raised near Chicago, IL Attended Illinois State University BSE in Elementary Education (K-9) specializing in middle school science, social studies and language arts 3rd year teaching science at Maricopa Wells Huge Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks fan. Assistant baseball coach at Maricopa Wells Taught 3rd grade in England Has a cat named Ozzie Younger sister is a Sergeant in the Army, currently stationed in Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, CO.

And now… your first activity… Ms. Banjavcic will divide you into groups and give you a textbook unit number. Once in groups, have the materials person get a piece of paper, marker and textbooks for your group. The person who is the writer needs to write the letters of the alphabet on the paper with plenty of space in between each letter. Open your textbooks to the unit number that was given to your group. Find a topic/idea/vocab word for each letter of the alphabet. The writer needs to write that word next to the corresponding letter. You must stay within your unit number and cannot use the glossary or index. We will share answers as a class and compile a list of the many topics we will be learning about this year. Write two paragraphs about the topic you are most excited to learn about and why. Which topic sounds the most boring to you and why?
