RULES & LAWS Why do we have rules & laws? What would life be like of we had no rules or laws?

Aim: By the end of this lesson you will have learnt the importance of rules and the reasons for having them.

Discuss with your group why you think rules exist. Why is it important for us to have rules? No traffic rules in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam - YouTube

Rules and laws are necessary to ensure that people’s rights are respected. Without any rules life could be chaotic!

Your group has been stranded on a desert island Your group has been stranded on a desert island. Decide who should be your leader. This person will lead your discussions and feed your answers back to the class.

You have managed to set up camp but you will need some rules to live by. As a group come up with three rules for each of the headings on your worksheet.

All rules come with consequences if you break them. For each of the rules your group has come up with decide on an appropriate punishment for breaking that rule.

Design your own desert island, including a camp and give it a name. On your desert island sheet write your island rules and consequences.

learnt so far to our school? Can we apply some of what we have learnt so far to our school? For each of the headings you have been working on come up with three rules and consequences that should be followed at Oban high School.

Task: In your jotters answer the following questions: Do you think rules are important? (explain your answer). Why should we have a clear set of rules to follow? Do you agree with the saying “rules are meant to be broken”? What do you think would happen if we didn’t have rules?
