Open House WILD We are WILD about learning!

Tardies and Absences Students are tardy if they are not in their seat at 8:20 when the bell rings. Students are absent if they are not in the building at 9:45 when the bell rings. Please send a doctor’s note the day your student comes back from an absence due to an illness. It must be sent within 5 days of the absence. Excessive unexcused absences may result in a letter from the district attorney’s office.

Homework Homework should only take 10 – 15 minutes a night, plus 15 – 20 minutes of reading practice. Please sign the sheet in the agenda book each night, even if there is no homework. The log in the blue folder is for library incentives.

Discipline Your child receives a grade for conduct daily in their agenda. An average of the weekly grades will determine the final conduct grade for the 9 week period. Students will be expected to follow Kreinhop’s “High Five Expectations.” (be respectful, be responsible, be safe, be kind, and be honest)

Pride and Power Pride and Power is a school wide accountability program we are beginning this year We give points for specials behavior (P.E./Music), cafeteria behavior, and completing homework Points are taken away for tardies, early dismissals, and absences TEAM POWER!

Paws and Class Incentives Ten stamps on a paw = entry into the raffle At the end of the nine weeks there will be a drawing for a prize Tickle me Pink (individual incentives) Fill/Empty Bucket (whole class incentives)

Grading Period Klein elementary schools are on a 9 week grading period. Progress reports will be sent home on the 5 th week. A grade (with no minimum) will be entered into the grade book for any assignment. Reteaching and retesting will occur but the grade will be consistent with first grade guidelines.

Tuesday Folder Your child will come home with their folder on Tuesday, please sign and return empty on Wednesday. On some Thursdays, papers from different community organizations will come home as well.

Dress code No tank tops, spaghetti straps, or muscle shirts Shorts and skirts must be at mid-thigh No flip flops No head coverings (bandannas, scarves, hats) Please no sandals on PE days M, T, TH Sneakers are best for daily recess activities

Reading Phonics Guided reading – children are grouped according to reading level. Groups change as students’ reading level change. Objective: level H/I at 60 words per minutes by end of year. Accuracy level of % in reading words. Fluency is appropriate for the first grade. Please have your child read or read to your child at least 15 minutes each night.

Math Numbers to 100 and counting patterns Graphing Addition and subtraction strategies to 18 Geometry and fractions (1/2, 1/3, ¼) Money: recognizing and knowing the values of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Count money to a dollar. Telling time to half an hour Measurements: non-standard units, length, weight On line math book-Pearson

Volunteers In school/workroom activities (materials prep) Room parent to help with winter and spring parties At home material preparation for classroom activities Assistance with Labs; Science and Computer Parent Readers

Conferences Before or after school most days. Please let me know ahead of time. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12:30 to 1:00

Parent Conference Day Parent conference day will be Tuesday, November 6 th I will send out a reminder the Tuesday before (October 30 th ) We will discuss your child’s progress so far

Parent University Night Will be held on October 18 th We will teach tips and strategies to use with your child in the different content areas More details will be provided at a later time
