Neolithic Era (write this in the center circle under topic)

Time Period This period started about 10,000 years ago Began after the Ice Age Also known as the New Stone Age It occurred in Asia, Africa, and the Americas

Lifestyle It was an agricultural (farming) society. People began to domesticate (tame) plants and animals The population increased because there was a steady source of food Disease spread because there was an abundance of animal and human waste

Community Rather than travel for food, people settled in permanent villages Now that people didn’t always have to hunt and gather they had more free time. They created new jobs and specialized in them. (ie – craftsman Because people now had jobs there was more wealth and trade Social classes developed

Food Popular food that was farmed: wheat, corn, rice Animals that were domesticated: cattle, goat, sheep

Social Status There were different classes Once class was the political class. They would protect the village and collect taxes. Another class was priests. They would run the village.

Cities Villages eventually grew and became more city-like. They had marketplaces where people would trade. They built security systems to protect the city. (ie barriers, walls, had soldiers) They also punished people who broke the law.
