Objectives To provide an understanding of the following –Specifications –Use –Maintenance –Safety
Specifications Steel construction with chrome plating Size ranges from 36” and 11lbs to 30” and 9 lbs 3 working ends –6” Fork –6” Adz –6” Pike Hooligan is a three piece halligan –The fork and the adz end is pressed and pinned onto the shaft. –The fork is a little longer
Use Forcible entry –Prying, purchase point etc Generally used in conjunction with the flat head axe Can be used in conjunction with a sledge hammer –“Commercial irons”
Maintenance Check for burrs and cracks –File any burrs down with a bastard file Sharpen all working ends –Avoid over sharpening Wash with mild soap and water, dry thoroughly Add thin coat of oil
Safety Wear appropriate PPE –Minimum of helmet, gloves, and eye protection Full turnouts and SCBA are required when utilizing tool in an IDLH atmosphere or when making entry into a possible IDLH atmosphere Check surroundings prior to using tool Ensure the tool is the right tool for the job Utilize proper hand placement to avoid the “pinch-point”
