The crime statistics cover five broad categories of crime:  Contact crimes  Contact-related crimes  Property-related crimes  Crimes heavily dependent on police action for detection  Other serious crimes Detailed analysis is presented only with regard to contact crimes and the subcategories of aggravated robbery. The figures in the accompanying graphs represent crime ratios, i.e. the incidence of crime per of the South African population.
