Housing options for Older People MSOPC 8 th September 2015 Emma Shuttleworth Housing Enabling Manager MSDC

What are the housing challenges faced by people as we all get older? To stay or to go? If I stay how can I manage? If I go where can I move to & can I afford it? Who can help? What if I don’t use a computer?

The choices vary according to the type of housing to be considered. Social Housing ? Owner Occupiers ? Private Rented? Or even Older Peoples Housing Cooperatives?

Choices by Tenure Private Housing Aids and adaptations to stay What can I afford? What specific older persons housing could I buy locally? Can I afford the Service Charges ? What if I need care as well? Where can I get help, advice and practical assistance? Social Housing Aids and adaptations to stay Am I eligible for social housing? How to I get on the Housing Register? How long must I wait? How does the system work? What about Extra Care?
