Oklahoma Teens Drivers Guide Sophomore Panther Time November 5, 2010

Oklahoma Teen Texting Law Effective November 1 st 2010 Drivers required to “devote their full time and attention to such driving.” Fines $100. Includes all electronic items like GPS & I-Pods Drivers with permits or graduated licenses (teens) prohibited from using a handheld electronic device to talk or to text while the car is in motion.

What Does This Mean? You can not text, add a destination to your GPS or change songs on your I-pod while driving. The police do not need another reason to pull you over. You will be ticketed and could lose your Intermediate License. DO NOT TEXT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION!

Do you see a motorcycle?

Three people lost their lives in this accident.

The driver was on her cellphone and did not see the motorcycle.

What is an Intermediate License? Oklahoma has a Graduated Driver License (GDL) for young people under the age 17. Oklahoma’s teen drivers have more crashes than any other age group. 25% of 16 year-olds either receive a ticket or are involved in a crash. All 50 states have some version of GDL.

Graduated Driver License If you are convicted of a traffic offense with a GDL you will remain at your current GDL until six (6) months from the date of conviction has elapsed. This includes the new convictions under the new Teen Texting Law.

Insurance Agent Advice Eric with State Farm Insurance on 123 rd & Rockwell Words of Wisdom: The premium for an average 16 year old - $ every six months. It can be higher or lower depending on the car and coverage.

How To Lower Insurance Premiums Complete an insurance sponsored Driver Safety program. Example: State Farm’s Steer Clear. Extra discounts for 3.0 and above G.P.A. Practice safe driving. The longer you go without a ticket or accident the lower your rates will be. Don’t get a brand new car Don’t buy a sports car with a large engine.
