ASSEMBLIES/GYM  Leave your belongings in the classroom, unless otherwise directed.  Boys line up single-file against right wall.  Girls line up single-file against left wall.  Wait until teacher says to walk. Walk quietly and in single file.  Stop at library wall so that the class can catch up.  Stop at gym gate so that the class can catch up.  Follow the teacher's directions on where to sit. We will sit as a class.  No gum, phone, horseplay, shouting out names, talking, etc.  Upon dismissal, do not get up until teacher gives the okay.  Return to class in single-filed boy/girl lines. Stop at library and 8th grade doors to allow students to catch up.  Enter the classroom quietly.  Wait for further instructions.

ATTENTION SIGNAL  Teacher rings the bell once to signal that the class is too loud and students must lower their voices.  Teacher rings the bell twice to signal that she needs everyone to stop, look, and listen. Students show they are ready when they are in their assigned seats, stop what they are doing, stop talking, and are looking at the teacher.

CLASS LECTURES/LESSONS  Stop, look, and listen when the teacher is talking to the class, conducting a demonstration, showing a video clip.  Do not interrupt the teacher, unless it is an emergency.  Do not stand or leave your seat without the teacher's permission.

CLASSROOM INTERRUPTIONS  Do not open the door unless directed by the teacher.  Quietly work in assigned seats while a visitor is in the classroom.  Students are not to speak to other students entering the classroom.

COMPUTER LAB  Each student will have an assigned computer.  Check the Seating Assignments list as you enter the lab.  Go directly to your assigned computer with your belongings.  Log on to the school's website.  Turn chair to the front of class (so I have your full attention).  If your computer is not working, stay in your assigned seat and wait for the teacher to help you after attendance. Do not switch seats. This is how I take attendance.  Turn in work in basket on teacher's desk.  Log off (periods 1-5) or shut down computers and monitors (period 6).

DISCIPLINE PLAN MINOR INFRACTIONS- Talking, throwing objects, not in assigned seat, frequent bathroom requests, etc. MAJOR INFRACTIONS- Disrespect, Fighting, Obscene language, Copying, Cheating, Test Disruptions, etc. 1st.WarningDean's referral 2nd.Call home to parent/guardian 3rd.Parent/Teacher/Student conference 4th.Discipline referral to the office The teacher and students will follow all school procedures and expectations. The teacher will follow the school's progressive discipline steps.

DISMISSAL  Two minutes before class ends, the teacher will announce "Tables nice and neat, hard to beat!" At that time, you will complete the following:  Stack textbooks in one pile in the middle of the table.  Return all teacher-provided materials to the appropriate container(s) on the table.  Clean up your area (table and floor). Keep all trash with you. Throw away all trash as you leave the classroom.  Remain in your seat until the teacher dismisses the class. The bell does not dismiss class.  Period 6 must place all chairs on desks before leaving.

DURING CLASS (part 1)  Hold all questions until after the teacher has finished taking the attendance and made general announcements. You may raise your hand and wait to be called when the teacher will says, "Do you have any questions, comments, or concerns?"  Always raise your hand and wait for the teacher's permission to ask a question or state a comment.  Do not get up to sharpen pencils or to go to the trash can. These things should be handled before or after class.  Sit up, do not put your head down during class.  When the teacher rings the bell, stop all activities, look at the teacher and listen.

DURING CLASS (part 2)  Turn off cell phones & electronic devices before entering the classroom.  Cell phones should be turned off and not visible during the class period. If I see or hear your phone, it will be taken away and given to an administrator, according to the school's cell phone policy. Refusal to turn over the cell phone will be treated as insubordinate behavior.  No food or drink, except water. Any other food/drink must be stored in lockers.  Do not touch anything on the teacher's desk or go behind it.  Do not touch, play with, or use lab equipment (faucets, hot plates, eye wash) unless otherwise instructed by the teacher.  Do not toss, throw, or slam dunk trash into the trash can. (Dispose trash in the trash can by the exit door as you leave class.)  Follow all lab safety rules in student contract.

EMERGENCY DRILLS  Students are to follow the school district's emergency drill procedures.  Students must stay with the class/teacher.  Students must not engage in horseplay or disruptive behavior.  Students must form 2 lines (male, female) at designated fire drill area.

ENTERING CLASS/BEFORE THE BELL RINGS  Use the restroom/get water during the passing period.  Line up outside of the classroom against the wall until teacher gives permission to enter the classroom.  Turn in all homework on the shelf by the door.  Sharpen all pencils and throw away all trash before the bell rings.  Sit in assigned seat quietly.  Write the Daily Objective and Homework in student planner.

GROUPWORK  Only the teacher assigns groups.  Wait for the teacher’s instructions before you begin working.  Read all written directions as group before you begin the activity.  Know your assigned role before you begin the activity.  Each group member must participate and clean up.  If you are turning in one as a group, each member must review/agree on their work before turning it in for a grade.  If you are turning in an individual assignment after working as group, your answers must not be identical. Do not copy someone else's answers/responses.

INDIVIDUAL/INDEPENDENT WORK  Work quietly in your assigned seat.  Review your work. Is your name, seat #, etc. at the top of the page?  If you are finished early, quietly read or start the next activity listed on the board.  Do not give your answers to other students.

LOCKERS/RESTROOM/OFFICE USE  Restroom and locker uses will be according to the school's policy.  You are to use the bathroom and get water while you are changing classes.  No bathroom passes will be issued the first and last ten minutes of class.  Unless it is an emergency, do not ask to leave the class while the teacher is talking to the class.  Office visits are at the teacher's discretion.

PLEDGE/30 SECONDS OF SILENCE/ANNOUNCEMENTS  Absolutely no talking or walking.  Continue to work quietly.

REQUIRED DAILY MATERIALS  2 or more sharpened pencils  1 hi-liter  1 box of colored pencils  3 blank, lined papers  student planner

STUDENT WORK  Go to to see daily class work, homework, and quarterly assignments.  Go to "Students"  Click on "Teacher Pages"  Click on "Ms. Karen Arthur".  Click on your class/class period.  Click on "Homework"  Click on "All Homework"

TARDIES/ABSENCES/MAKE-UP WORK  Any student who is not in the classroom when the bell rings will be considered tardy.  If you are tardy to class, come in and place your note on the teacher's desk. Be seated quickly and quietly. If you don't have a note, sit quietly and raise your hand so that the teacher notes your arrival to class.  If you are absent from class, you are responsible for obtaining assignments and notes. Go to to view PowerPoints, videos, class notes, etc. Get worksheets and any additional handouts from the "Absent Work" period folder before class. (You have three school days after an excused absence to make up any missed work.) Make sure you write "ABSENT" and the date you turned in the assignment on the upper right-hand corner of the front page.  If you missed a test or a lab, see the make up dates and times on the board. You can also see the teacher before or after class to make an appointment for test/lab make-up.

TESTING  Absolutely no talking during a test, even if you are finished early.  Once you have completed your test, you are to quietly complete one of the "Finished Early" options listed on the board for that day.  Turn in all tests according to the teacher's instructions.  If you are not finished by the end of class, the test will be graded as is. You may re- take the test on a scheduled make-up day.

TURNING IN WORK- Early, On-Time, or Late  Turn in homework, absent or late work on the appropriate period shelf before the bell rings.  For assignments to be turned in during class, you will pass the papers and place them in one pile when the teacher announces “Make a pile near the aisle.”  (When the teacher announces "Make a pile near the aisle.“ pass your papers to the “Picker Upper”. The “Picker Upper” will check that all students wrote their names and seat numbers on their assignments. They will place the assignments in one pile for a designated student or the teacher to pick up. ) Make sure your seat number, first and last name, the date, and the title of the assignment are at the top of every paper.  ALL LATE WORK MUST BE TURNED IN WITHIN 10 DAYS OF THE DUE DATE WITH A LATE ASSIGNMENT FORM. STUDENT MUST COMPLETELY FILL OUT THE FORM. PARENT MUST SIGN THE FORM. STAPLE FORM TO YOUR LATE WORK.

WRITING UTENSILS  If you use a pen, it has to be black or royal blue.  If you use a mechanical pencil, have your own supply of refill lead.  No matter what you write with, always have a spare. If you are unprepared, find one quietly.
