Grade2 In the classroom Fall 2015

Benefits of the Environment  Students will have a great deal of opportunity to speak English.  By sitting in small groups students will engage each other in English in a way that will help them to improve together.  Picture association and physical response will help to develop positive language learning habits.  A friendly, conversation based class atmosphere will ease the stress students feel engaging a new language.

How do We teach Phonics? How do We teach Phonics?  Students are encouraged to read and listen to poems and promote listening comprehension and spelling in interesting and fun ways.  Each lesson is processional (building on each other), and will be followed by activities that will check learner’s comprehension.  The class provides an opportunity to practice with sight- reading, sound combinations, and word inflection. These skills are important to reach native reading ability.  We will create and use additional materials to help reinforce the lesson targets.

How do We teach Speak Kids 2?  Students will develop speaking skills through hands-on activities and show-and-tell projects.  Games and Activities improve a student’s speaking confidence and gives them a chance to interact with each other in controlled and interesting ways.  Extra materials will be used to consolidate lesson topics.  Students will be encouraged to test their abilities in class and learn from their mistakes.

Class AssessmentClass Assessment MMaking mistakes during class will not be penalized and is encouraged. TThe Midterm and the Final will each be worth 35% of the final score. EEffort and Participation in class will be worth 30% of the score.

How Can Parents Help? How Can Parents Help?  Treat English as a source of fun or entertainment and students will develop their listening and speaking skills.  This can be achieved during leisure time by reading to your child often, encouraging them to notice English letters in their everyday environment, and making English a fun and natural part of life.  Encourage students to share what they have learned about in class.
