The Verb

What is a verb? Verb: A word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence. How many types of verbs are there?

Types of Verbs There are 3 types of verbs: Action Linking and Helping Can you give me an example of each?

Examples Action – pitch, run, jump, look at, try….. Linking – is, are, am, was, were, be, being, appear, become, feel, seem, look… Helping – will, would, can, could, shall, should, is, be, am, was, were……..

Spot the Verbs: It was sunny everyday in California, so we went to the beach, surfed, got a tan and built giant, towering sandcastles. I will remember those days forever. What kind of verbs are they? Action, helping, linking? What tense are they in? Present, past, future… ?
