The Worlds Biggest Experiment

CERN…Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire Large Hadron Collider Worlds most expensive science project!! Worlds largest particle accelerator Worlds largest energy accelerator Particles will accelerate to % of the speed of light It is 27kilometers (17 miles) in circumference

It will operate at 1.9 Kelvin (colder than outer space) By contrast the blast from the beams will be 100,000 times hotter then the heart of the sun. The internal pressure in the LHC is (atm) It is located in the Jura Mountains and the Alps near Geneva Switzerland It was funded and built by over 10,000 scientists and engineers from over 100 counties as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories It will cost anywhere from 3.2 billion to 6.4 billion dollars to build and operate!!

Produce the Higgs Boson Unify or destroy the existing theories of matter Create a real understanding on how the universe works and how it began Prove of disprove the existence of other dimensions beyond the four that we know of prove antimatters effects on the universe Prove the existence of dark matter and its influence on us.

It will be upgraded after ten years of service The initial beam will carry more protons or “bigger packets” The luminescent sensors will also be upgraded to record the happenings better Lots more money…they won’t say…(surprise)
