The first written note mentioning Šarišské Micha ľ any is from Our village is situated on the left side of the river Torysa. It is 15 km far from Prešov and 6 km from Sabinov. Older name of Šar. Saris, 1245 The first traces of human life in Šar. Micha ľ any lead back to about 5000 years ago. The castle belongs to one of the oldest in Slovakia. The village was created near of St. Michal Church. The village is named after St. Michal. He is a patron of painters, soldiers, tailors, bakers... St. Michal Church

The village was the property of Šariš Castle until In 16th century it belonged to the Darholczs and the Rakaczays. They built a manor-house in 1585, later rebuilt it into a renaissance one. A baroque chapel was built next to the manor-house in The original Romansque church of St. Michal was from 11th - 12th century. In this chapel is a portrait of Woman Crucified.

Julo Zborovjan, famous poet, play-writer and publicist, was born in Šarišské Micha ľ any in 1921 (died in 1974). This is his grave in cemetery in Šar. Micha ľ any.
