JVS SF & Advisory Committees December 13, 2011

Work Transforms Lives JVS SF and Advisory Committees 1.How is JVS SF currently working with advisory committees? 2.What’s working? 3.What would we like to be doing better? 4.Recent successes?

Work Transforms Lives Our Work with Sector Advisory Committees We “convene” local employers in many of the most high-growth industry sectors in the Bay Area through sector-based advisory groups (healthcare, financial services, retail). Leading employers from each sector participate and: Help inform curriculum/training opportunities Provide feedback on existing programs Provide industry and hiring trends (career ladder/lattice) Increase placement opportunities and outcomes Network with peers Help drive participation at “employer spotlights” and hiring events

Work Transforms Lives Financial Services Advisory Committee What’s working Recently expanded membership, including smaller banks Strong interest in training opportunities (incumbent worker and teller), and outplacement services Good participation in volunteer events Willing to strategize with us on entry level and seasoned professional hiring Interested in speaking to candidates who have completed seasonal retail positions What we’d like to improve Increased interest in and awareness of entry level banking positions among our clients Better understanding of other non-entry level hiring requirements, trends

Work Transforms Lives Retail Advisory Committee What’s working Recently reinvigorated after a dormant period Seasonal hiring a great fit for our clients Very active in volunteer and screening events (including a Management in Retail event) Great success story with Macy’s seasonal hiring Developing a post-holiday career path to banking What we’d like to improve Year-round hiring Hiring at all levels, not just sales associates A greater variety of employers on the committee

Work Transforms Lives Healthcare Advisory Committee What’s working Strongest and largest advisory committee, the model for others Has been instrumental in helping us develop new training programs and partnerships. Members have hired significantly over the years, prior to the downturn Has helped us identify trends and expand our reach in healthcare Good representation from all major healthcare employers, educational, and union partners Helps position JVS as a partner in the sector What we’d like to improve Hiring at all levels Representation from smaller healthcare employers Contacts with others in the organization for non-healthcare hiring

Work Transforms Lives Recent Successes with Healthcare Advisory Committee Hosted employer recognition event December meeting included guest speaker and recognition ceremony Special emphasis on members who are hiring, to reinforce purpose of committee Included smaller, non-member employers who are hiring Shared employer engagement success stories Gave concrete examples of how to get involved with JVS new hire training incumbent worker training screening internships volunteering Followed up with “sign up” sheet for each type of activity
