WHAT IS PERSUASIVE SPEAKING? The speech is arranged in such a way as to hopefully cause the audience to accept all or part of the expressed view. 3 TYPES OF APPEALS Ethos / Credibility If you trust the person speaking you are more likely to believe them If you trust the person speaking you are more likely to believe them Example: if your parent or doctor or someone close to you tells you smoking is bad, you would be more likely to listen to them if you trust them. RAISE AWARENESS This step is your 'listen up' call. To make it effective it needs to grab the audience. It could be any of the following: a startling statement a rhetorical question a quotation a funny story a dramatic story A photograph or other visual aid Consider 'What's in it for me?' while deciding on your attention getter. Why should your audience listen? Is it relevant to them?
