THE EXODUS

Review The Lord used the 10 plagues of Egypt – To convince Pharoah to let Israel go – To make Egypt and Israel believe in the Lord – To demonstrate the power of the Lord The Passover was instituted – Israel was spare from the death of the firstborn – All the firstborn of Egypt died

Preparation for the Exodus Nourishment for the journey They had to be in a state of readiness Provisions for the journey – Dough – 12:34 – No other provisions – 12:39 – Silver, gold & clothing from Egyptians – 11:2-3

The Exodus of Israel Ex. 12:30-41 The Egyptians sent them out in haste They plundered the Egyptians 600,000 men on foot, a mixed multitude, children, flocks, herds, livestock Sons of Israel lived in Egypt 430 years

God Leads Israel Ex. 13:17-22 The way of the land of the Philistines is the shortest route to Canaan By the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea They traveled by day and night Supernatural ability to travel 24 hours a day for many days They did not stumble – Isa. 63:13

Pharoah Pursues Israel Ex. 14:5-9 The key phrase here is “the people had fled” Remember Pharoah was letting Israel go 3 day’s journey into the wilderness to worship the Lord It is not clear that the Egyptians understood they were leaving for good After 3 days journey, garrison outposts would have reported them fleeing He overtook them camping by the Red Sea The Lord’s protection – vs

Crossing the Red Sea Moses divided the waters – 14:21-22 – This is a miracle – The crossing was like the dry land – The walls of water indicate deep water The Egyptians went into the sea in pursuit – The Lord caused confusion – He removed their chariot wheels – The Egyptians began to flee

The Lord Overthrew the Egyptians Moses returned the sea to a normal state – 14:27 The waters came back upon the Egyptians – vs. 28 They all drowned Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore – vs. 30

Result of God’s Salvation – 14:31 Saw the power the Lord had used Feared the Lord Believed in the Lord and his servant Moses Celebrated God’s deliverance – Chapter 15

What Can We Learn from this Story? The Lord can give us favor in the sight of others – Examples: Daniel, Joseph, Esther – We have to do what is right and be pleasing to God – The Lord will be with us and help us to prosper – It is part of the providence of God – We need to pray for this favor

What Can We Learn? (continued) The numbers of Israel – About 600,000 men on foot, besides children – 12:37 – 603,550 - Did not include tribe of Levi, at Mt. Sinai – Num. 1:45-47 – 601,730, men able to go to war, 20 years and older –Num. 26:51 – 2 to 2.5 million with women, children and elderly

What Can We Learn? (continued) – Proved by a math problem - Ex. 38:25-26 Each numbered man, 20 years and older, gave a half shekel for building the tabernacle 603,550 men x ½ shekel = 301,775 total shekels Total Silver: 100 talents and 1,775 shekels Vines: Jewish talent = 3,000 shekels of the sanctuary 100 talents = 300,000 shekels 300, ,775 = 301,775 total sheke ls

Conclusion The Lord showed his great power by – Miracles – His providence and care – Bringing 2.5 million people out of Egypt Will you believe in these things? Will you fear and trust the Lord?
