WHAT IS VP9?  next-generation video codec  Next standard that will be released sooon  successor to VP8  Known also : Next Gen Open Video (NGOV) and VP-Next

BIG EVENT  reduce the bit rate by 50% compared to VP8  having the same video quality!

HISTORY  started in 2011  Initial release : December 2012  June 2013 : profile 0 of VP9 was finalized.

WHY VP9?  The VP8 (WEBM) codec hasn't made the splash Google and many others had hoped it would  in competing with H.264,  HEVC High Efficiency Video Coding A SUCCESSOR for H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Efficiency Video CodingH.264/MPEG-4 AVC

YOUTUBE trouble  How big is it?  More than 1 billion monthly users;  More than 4 billion video views per day;  More than 6 billion hours of video watched per month;  More than 72 hours of video uploaded each minute  And 25 percent of consumption is with mobile devices.

PROS & CONS !  many design improvements compared to VP8VP8  support the use of superblocks of 32×32 pixels  Will it be worth the effort to switch?

FUTURE WEB – BY VP9  There will be more video chat  Secure video chat will come true  There is an estimation 30% of network traffic will be reduced
