Manga Art Research Fill this page up with your favourite MANGA ART images Annotate and explain why you have chosen these images and how they will help you in your design process 2

CONTEXT: How and why the product is used? Target and market audience? AESTHETICS: Colour, texture, size, shape and proportion, theme? PERFORMANCE: Function-How it works and why? Ergonomic/Anthropometric considerations SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: Safety, Fashion, Efficiency INDUSTRIAL PRACTICES: How much it will cost to make? Scale of production Pencil Case Research 3

Task 1 Look at the pictures of the products you have chosen and write a thorough analysis, you must describe what you see and use the following questions to guide you. Your knowledge What do you think it is made from? What age range do you think it is it for? Why do you think is has been designed like this? Can you think of any other products displayed in a similar way? Understanding Do you like it? Is it the right size, shape, pattern, color for its purpose? Explain why you think this product was developed? Analysis What makes this product unique from others of its type? Does this product have an image or identity, if so what is it? Pencil Case Research 5

Draw up a specifications list to be as ‘specific' as possible about what it is you are going to make. Number your list for example… 1. Pencil case must have a zip. Mind Map and Specification Mind map as many ideas as possible to help you with your final design… 6

Task 3: DESIGN IDEAS AND USING YOUR IMAGINATION NOW COME UP WITH SOME OF YOUR OWN IDEAS! Be careful when you are drawing, you are not marked on how well you can draw, just how clearly you show your ideas with a good combination of drawn and written information. If you are stuck, you can always start by choosing one of your favorite pencil cases that you have researched and then draw adaptations and modifications to it for example you can have any part of it changed for any reason such as color or style. When you make these changes decide who you are changing them for and why it will appeal to this new audience. Task 3: DESIGN IDEAS AND USING YOUR IMAGINATION NOW COME UP WITH SOME OF YOUR OWN IDEAS! You must now explain any plus points, minus points and improvements, you would make to your new product. How successful were you in meeting your specifications? How do your class mates rate your product and why? If you had to do this project again what would you do differently? What did you learn in the project that was new to you?
