Final Paper Format And a few other tips…

The Cover Page Your cover page should include: The title of your paper Use a 12 point font Center it about a third of the way down the page Your name Also in 12 point font Center about two thirds down the page My name Spelled correctly and right below your name The name of the class Written directly below my name The date you are turning your essay in Be sure to use MLA format (i.e. 25 May 2007)

The Outline Following the cover page, you should have a finalized outline Use the same format as your rough outline It should reflect the actual layout of your essay It should be written in simple, complete sentences Do not include page numbers on your outline

The Text Because you have a cover page, you do not need to repeat any of that info…just start your essay Use the “header” in your program to add page numbers to your text Your page numbers should have your last name followed by five spaces and then the page number (i.e. Smith 3) Use the help function if you need assistance creating a page number header Double check all margins are set to 1 inch Triple check the format of all in text citation

The Text When you think you have finished: Spell check your paper Grammar check your paper Remember, grammar check is not ALWAYS right! Read your paper out loud to catch any final mistakes ANY PAPER WITH MORE THAN TEN MAJOR ERRORS IN THE FINAL DRAFT WILL RECEIVE A FAILING GRADE IN STYLE AND LANGUAGE! Those errors include but are not limited to: Spelling Basic grammar MLA Formatting

The Works Cited Page Continue numbering pages with your header for the works cited page If your last page of test was page 5, your works cited should be page number 6 Center the title “Works Cited” at the top of the page Alphabetize all your entries by the first word (i.e. last name, title, etc.) Use a hanging indent for each entry Do not use numbers or bullets Follow all MLA guidelines and refer to the example in page 41 of the green books

On The Due Date You will need to turn in the following: One final copy of your essay Complete with cover page, outline, text, and works cited - in that order Your typed and hand-written rough drafts Your rough outline Your practice Bib cards Be advised - After Friday study hall of the same week, your paper will not be accepted and you will receive an automatic 50 percent, IF you can prove you did anything at all. NO EXCEPTIONS!
