 Why would a population increase of only 2 percent lead to a population explosion in India?  India already has a billion people.  In 40 years, a 2 percent increase would result in an additional half billion people.  What percentage of the world’s population lives in South Asia?  About 22 percent  Basic necessities are not being met  Inadequate resources to meet those needs

 Why are large families still considered desirable despite concerns about population?  Children supplement income  Children support parents in old age  Why is education fundamental in the slowing of population growth?  Health education can reduce the need for large families by reducing infant mortality rate  Educated parents will be less reliant on their children to supplement family income  What difficulties are South Asian governments encountering in providing adequate education?  Inadequate funds  Inability to keep up with needs of  population
