Minor in Computer Technology Computer Engineering UCSC Baskin School of Engineering

Computer Engineering focuses on the design, analysis and application of computers and on their applications as components of systems. The Computer Technology Minor provides a broad overview of the underlying hardware and software technologies of the computer age within the context of society.

Who is the Minor for? Students interested in the use of computer technology in another discipline –The minor will inform you of the possibilities of computer technology and enable you to work with engineering teams to solve problems. Or Students interested in K-12 teaching. The minor does not focus on the foundations of engineering (math and physics), but instead the application and use of computer technology.

Computer Technology Interfacing with Science SeaLabs Sensor Networks for Environmental Monitoring Collaboration between CE, EE, EEB, and Long Marine Lab Senior Design Project

Computer Technology Interfacing with People Laser-based virtual white cane Wayfinding via passive color labels and wearable cameras Visual control for semi-autonomous wheelchairs Map exploration via force-feedback mouse Projects in Assistive Technology

Computer Technology Minor Computer Engineering (4 required, 1 optional) –1 Hands-On Computer Engineering (2 units) –3 PC Hardware and Software (5 units, optional) –12/L Computer Systems and Assembly Language –100/L Digital Logic –80N, Networking & Internet, or 150 Intro. to Computer Networks Programming (2 required) –CS12A/L & CS12B/M, or BME/CS60x & CS12A/L Computer Technology and Society: –CE80E (Engineering Ethics) –CE80H (History Comp) or EE80T (Technology) or CE80A (Assistive Technology) or CS80J (Technology targeted at social issues) –ISM101 (1 unit) Management of Technology Seminar Electives: Two 5-unit UD SOE courses –And any associated laboratories Capstone: 194F, Essay on Impact of Technology in major

Computer Engineering Minor Focus on technology rather than technology and society Includes normal engineering math sequence and physics (19A, 19B, 23A, 27/L, 5A, 5C, 16) Electronics (EE70/L) and Programming (12A, 12B, 101) Computer Engineering (12/L, 100/L, 110, 121/L) Capstone is the Microprocessor System Design, a Jr-level design course for CE Majors
